Antoine Plassan was known as a painter of genre scenes, portraits, still lifes and country views.
Although his style was studied, with a strong graphical quality, his paintings had an intimate quality about them reminiscent of that of the 18th century.
Plassan won medals for his paintings in 1852, 1857 and 1859 and was made a knight of the Legion d'honneur in 1859.
He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1846.
Examples of his work can be seen in museums in Bordeaux, Reims and Montreal.
