Giovanni Battista Innocenzo Colombo began his career in his home-town of Arogno near Lugano in Switzerland.
His training was as the pupil of his uncle Luca Antonio Colombo, who was in turn a pupil of his father, the architectural painter Giovanni Battista Colombo, born in 1638.
Colombo travelled extensively in Italy, Poland, Austria and Germany and other European countries. He decorated numerous royal theatres in Italy and Germany and his most famous commission was the work done on the ceiling of the Royal Opera of Ludwigsburg.
Colombo also executed numerous landscapes and became particularly proficient in this field.
