Walter Prince was a Manchester-based English artist who painted in the Impressionist style somewhat in the manner of some of contemporaries such as William Mark Fisher RA (1841-1923) and Algernon Talmage (1871-1939). These artists favoured broader brush strokes than their Victorian predecessors, intensity of colour to capture the effects of the light and working plein-air.
Prince exhibited four works at the Manchester City Art Gallery between 1886 and 1900 but little is known of his life. This is surprising considering the quality and attractiveness of his painting and most works are probably still in private hands as they do not appear on the art market.
