René Hauben was an artist and fabric designer who was born in Bressoux in 1912.
He studied art at L'Académie de Liège and was drawn particularly to the depiction of the human form and he developed his own style of expressionism in pursuit of his ideal. Most of his oeuvre was either portraiture, or figure subjects and some of his later work tended towards abstraction with occasionally a religious or celestial theme.
He taught design at L'Acedémie de Liège from 1943 to 1972 and he was a member of the Belgian modern art groups "L'Atelier" and "Nord 7".
The Musée de Liège has examples of Hauben's work in its collection.
